I am grateful to be serving as the Assistant Principal of J.N. Fries Magnet School. Before working at J.N. Fries Magnet School, I was a classroom teacher and Multi-Classroom Leader at Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. During my time in CMS, I was named Teacher of the Year at my school (2018). Recently, I spent time in the private sector working as a consultant, supporting multiple school districts across North Carolina, specifically Winston-Salem Forsyth County Schools. I received my Masters in School Administration as part of the Aspiring High School Principals Program at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte.  I am currently completing a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership: Superintendency Concentration, Ed.D from The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. My husband and I live in Concord with our two children. We enjoy spending time together visiting the beautiful parks in the area. I enjoy reading, visiting historical sites, trying new coffee shops, and spending time with friends and family. I am a devoted Pittsburgh Penguins hockey fan — having grown up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania before moving to North Carolina in 2014.

My name is Gerald Nixon and I am the assistant principal. I earned my Bachelors in elementary education from Winston-Salem State University and a Masters in School Administration from Gardner-Webb university. I came to Cabarrus County from Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools where I taught elementary school for the first 10 years of my career and for the last 10 years, I worked at the Opportunity school, as a middle school science teacher before transitioning to the assistant principal role.  I hope to instill a love of learning in the students and help foster a safe and welcoming learning environment. I believe that learning is one of the many joys in life that makes waking up every day that much more exciting.
